My first ever tutorial. That I can remember. *shrugs*

From  to

I'm tired of seeing all those curves and selective coloring and stuff! So a simple, translatable tutorial!

So, first we start offf with this:

Yikes. Dark, hard to see what's going on.

Set to screen 100%

Use the Autos: Auto Smart Fix, Auto Levels, Auto Contrast, Auto Coloring, etc etc, how it fits to your icon.

Use the brightness and contrast according to your icon. I used Brightness +15 and Contrast +11

Sharpen a bit if needed. Or maybe blur in some situations. Sharpen 40%

Use levels time!
Green- 0--1.00--246

Then I used this texture-

I set it to Lighten 100% over the icon. And tada!

So let's go through the process then!

Comments are love guys! Show me what you made!!!!! :)

Very useful tutorial! It just might be more helpful to include a more detailed explanation of not only what you're fixing/changing but also how and where to find those items in Photoshop, or whatever program you're using, seeing as how these kind of tutorials might be more geared towards somebody who is just starting out in icon making or photo editing and the navigation of the program may be brand new to them. Just my experience with tutorials.

Anyways I wanted to say, you used a good example and overall it's a wonderful first tutorial! ( I was happy to read it because I'd forgotten about using sharpen... ^^ )
